Dental Cleanings
Why Get Your Pet’s Teeth Cleaned?
By age three, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats show signs of dental disease
How are pet dental cleanings performed?
Pets are anesthetized under the supervision of a TCAP surgeon.
The plaque and tartar build up on your pet’s teeth are scaled and removed. Plaque and calculus are also cleaned out from below the pet’s gum line. This is the most important step, as debris below the gum line can cause periodontal disease.
The teeth are polished and treated with fluoride.

100 lbs
Less than 10 years old
and sterilized if under 5 years old.
Free from pre-existing
health conditions
Because anesthesia is used, our veterinary staff reserves the right to refuse service to any pet we feel is not a good candidate for a dental cleaning.
- A $50 deposit will be assessed per pet when scheduling an appointment. This deposit will be applied to services provided on the day of your pet’s appointment. This deposit is non-refundable in the event of a cancellation or rescheduling.
- TCAP recommends pre-surgical intraoral radiographs (dental X-rays) to check for pre-existing pathology. TCAP does not perform intraoral radiographs.
- TCAP considers a dental specialist as an extension of the primary care veterinary team in providing oral health care.
- While TCAP does not extract teeth that are not loose and easily removed, if a jaw fracture occurs during extractions, your pet will be referred to a Board Certified Veterinary Dentist.
- Due to special diagnostic and anesthetic needs, TCAP does not perform surgery or dental cleanings on blind or deaf pets, Persian cats, English Bulldogs, Olde English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs, or any mixes of these breeds.
- If TCAP’s veterinarian determines a patient does not meet the minimum health requirements for services, the patient will be declined to ensure the patient’s health. This decision is made for the pet’s well-being, and the patient will be referred to local full-service hospitals for care.
- Dental cleanings can vary in cost depending on multiple factors including if extractions are necessary, how much cleaning is needed for your pet’s teeth, and any at-home care or medications that your pet may need. The total cost for a dental cleaning will not exceed $450.
