Pre-Surgical Instructions

  1. Your pet should not eat or drink after 10 p.m. the evening prior to the appointment. If your pet eats after 10 p.m., including treats, the surgery appointment will be rescheduled.
  2. Surgery drop-off is between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. the day of your appointment and pick-up is 3 p.m. that same afternoon.  If your pet is on a transport, pick up is at 4 p.m.
  3. Dogs need to be on a secure leash or in a sturdy carrier.  Cats must be in a hard-sided carrier or a live trap for surgery.  If your pet’s appointment is at a travel location or on a transport, all pets need to have a size-appropriate, hard-sided carrier in which to spend the day.
  4. Payment is due at the time of drop-off.  Please have Visa, MasterCard, Discover, cash, printed prepayment receipts, or vouchers/coupons ready.  Please note that if your pet is in heat, pregnant, crypt orchid, requires dental extractions, etc. there may be additional charges assessed by the veterinarian. These additional fees are due at the time of pet pickup.
  5. If any of the following conditions apply to your pet on the morning of surgery, you will need to reschedule your pet’s appointment: female dogs in active heat with a vaginal discharge, female pets producing milk, or male pets, younger than six months old, who have one or both testicles undescended.
  6. A current rabies vaccine is required for surgery.  If your pet has a current rabies vaccine, written proof is required.  We cannot accept a rabies tag alone.  If your pet is due for a rabies vaccine, the vaccine will be given at the time of surgery for an additional $5.
  7. Lines for surgery check-in often form outside so please come dressed for the weather.

If TCAP’s veterinarian determines a patient does not meet the minimum health requirements for services, the patient will be declined to ensure the patient’s health. This declination of service is for a pet’s well-being and the patient will be referred to local, full-service hospitals for care.
